Go get a key yourself from scrappy or ebay.....dead easy to program.

A half decent locksmith should be able to program the transponder chip for you.

Or you could just nick the one out of your ordinary type key.

If you have 2 existing keys you can program the transponder yourself.

All this assumes that you have existing remote locking on your vehicle and are just missing the key.

Kev, thanks for the info.

I have two existing keys, one plain and one that should have a light in it. Where do I find the transponder chip? And how do I program the transponder?

before certain people jump in and offer advice! lets check to see what model the OP has and then decide if it actually has remote locking?

Indeed!

Mine came with a plain key, and a remote key which didn't work. Supplying dealer obtained a new remote, and this didn't work either... yes, the car had no remote locking, and to add to the confusion had at some point been fitted up with a remote key to replace the original. ;)

Mine is a 1999 Zetec, and remote locking was a

It was mentioned previously.....although admitedly not answered.

You needed from the dealer when it was purchased:

Convenience Pack 2 - Volume Sensing Alarm, Remote Central Locking and Load Compartment Cover

If you have one of those you'll have remote locking. The CJB has three levels, 1) basic systems, 2) + with VSA (as above) and 3) + with Door Ajar/Lights Warning.

It would appear if you have 2) then you should be able to program a key for just remote locking. It might be something that could be coded in VAG-COM. There are coding levels for the CJB which mention alarm and alarm pluds remote locking or just remote locking. Maybe someone with VAG-COM knowledge could shed some light on this.

If so you could buy a remote key from FMC have that cut and programmed and remote locking added that way.

Also on a 1999 Zetec I got a Toad RK30 fitted by a local auto electrician about 18 months ago and its been totally reliable. Took about an hour for him to fit. I paid the extra for the Toad name and certainly haven't been dissapointed.

I've been looking at the RK30 kit, did you get this to set the alarm as well or just lock and unlock the doors?

I've got a mk1 so I assume that some tweaking might be needed. The Toad from what I have read uses two wires to lock and unlock - which the Galaxy can do - but the alarm has the extra 3 wire switch on the lock which I assume checking the diagram needs to be triggered when the locks lock/unlock which I guess means using a relay or two to trigger the "alarm" pulse when un/locking the doors?

I know that the RK30 seems to be the option for mk1's but I wonder what your input on this is ?

Set the RK30 for positive locking and connect to the cdl box under passenger seat

and test from there to see if it will arm and disarm alarm

I have never done a MK1 with alarm

but im sure if it had alarm it will have had remote as well

I was told by the Ford dealer that it would have remote locking but from reading the posts here I now have some doubts.

How would I confirm for definate whether the car has remote locking capability?

thanks
